Medical Advisory Board
Dr. David Mathai is a board-certified psychiatrist and volunteer Assistant Professor at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He has advanced training as a behavioral pharmacologist and completed a postdoctoral research fellowship with the Johns Hopkins Center for Psychedelics and Consciousness Research. Dr. Mathai earned his medical degree and completed his residency at Baylor College of Medicine and the Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, where he received awards for excellence in psychotherapy and research. He is also a graduate of Texas A&M University, where he studied Biochemistry, Genetics, and English, graduating with University Honors and Honors Fellows Distinctions.
As a clinician, Dr. Mathai treats individuals with conditions such as depression, anxiety, and trauma, focusing on helping them cultivate deeper relationships with themselves and others. He advocates for a judicious use of psychiatric medications and collaborates closely with patients to make informed decisions about prescribing or de-prescribing medications.
As a researcher, Dr. Mathai has produced numerous scientific publications on behavioral models of addiction, cognitive impairment, the neuropsychiatric effects of cannabis, and psychedelic-type therapies like ketamine, MDMA, and psilocybin. He has served as a scientific collaborator, study physician, and session therapist for multiple clinical trials of psilocybin-assisted interventions. Additionally, he has worked as a physician-investigator for Phase 1-3 drug development studies for schizophrenia and depression. Dr. Mathai is dedicated to developing safe and sustainable healthcare infrastructures that harness the healing potential of psychedelics.
